The Statue of Liberty Crown welcomes visitors for the first time since 2020

In the spring of 2020, many iconic New York City attractions, including the Statue of Liberty, shut down their operations in response to the pandemic. Since then, New York City landmarks have been gradually reopening their doors to the public. Now, the Statue of Liberty Crown is also ready to accept new visitors.

Since the crown reopened, tickets to visit this landmark have been selling out at a rapid pace. Currently, the nearest available date is November 9, 2022. Adult tickets cost $24.30 and include a ferry ride from either New York or New Jersey.

To get to the crown, guests must climb the 215-step staircase or use an elevator that will take them to the pedestal. However, the elevator does not go all the way up to the crown. Visitors would have to navigate 162 stairs to reach the observation deck. The lack of an elevator limits the accessibility of this landmark.

According to CNN, the National Park Service, which manages all national parks and most monuments, attempted to hold a soft reopening and avoid too much advertisement. However, the demand for tickets to the Statue of Liberty Crown was so high that they had to launch a full-fledged opening this month.

"People really were excited about the news," Jerry Willis, a spokesperson for the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island, told CNN. "We had to hire people and get them up to speed to effectively run crown operations.”
