New York is the “Grinchiest” city in the United States, report says

by Verus Real Estate

New York City is the perfect place to celebrate the holiday season. Every year, the city embraces the holiday cheer with its legendary Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, famous Dyker Heights Christmas Lights, countless outdoor markets, and Broadway shows.

Although New York City has no shortage of holiday decorations and events, it was still named the “Grinchiest” city in the country. The money website, FinanceBuzz, collected data from the 50 biggest US cities and evaluated them based on five criteria that help measure Christmas cheer.

“New York City takes the roast beast as the Grinchiest city in America thanks to having the nation’s lowest rates of holiday decoration shops (0.6), Christmas tree lots (0.3), gift shops (9.9), and food banks (0.1) per 100,000 people,” the report says. “Additionally, only 23.3% of New Yorkers volunteer annually — the fourth-lowest percentage in the country.”

Los Angeles became the second-Grinchiest city in the United States, according to FinanceBuzz. San Antonio, Chicago, and Memphis have also appeared among the top five cities that lack holiday cheer. Meanwhile, Hartford, Connecticut, scored 74.8 points and was named the least Grinchiest city, followed by Providence, Rhode Island, and Minneapolis.

The holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year. But it could also be a bit overwhelming. It might seem like there is not enough time to check off everything on the to-do list. In addition, there are many people who do not celebrate Christmas.

New York is a large and diverse city, and many of its residents celebrate their cultural and religious holidays at different times throughout the year. In this case, it makes perfect sense that New York City would have a lower number of holiday decorations and Christmas trees.
